Sabbath Day

·         What are the first three commandments?

::READ EXODUS 20:8-11::
·         What is the fourth commandment?
·         What does that mean?
·         Why do we need to keep the Sabbath? (take a day out of our busy schedule)
·         Who was the first to have a day of rest? (God)
·         Do you think He needed a day of rest?  (NO…he is God! He was giving us an example)
·         Who does this commandment apply to?

·       What happens if you break the Sabbath?
·         People made up LOTS of rules so they won’t break the Sabbath.

What to do…Read a few of the Sabbath laws; mark True or False, if you think if they were really put into practice, or if they were made up.

9.    _________Detangling fibers is prohibited.

10. _________Passing any yarn through warp for the purpose of weaving is not allowed.

11. _________Tearing an object in two is not allowed.

12. _________Trapping a fly in a cup is prohibited.

13. _________You may not end the life of an animal.

14. _________Removing the hide from the body of a dead animal is prohibited.

15. _________Cutting any object to a specific size is against the law.

16. _________You may not write on the Sabbath.

17. _________Erasing in order to write two or more letters was not allowed.

18. _________While extinguishing a fire is forbidden even when great property damage will result, in the event of any life-threatening fire one is required to extinguish the flames.

19. _________Do not light a fire in any of your dwellings on the Sabbath day.

20. _________You may not use a stapler. 

21. _________You may not carry a load out of your house.

22. _________In the event that a human life is in danger, you are not only allowed, but required, to violate any Shabbat law that stands in the way of saving that person.

·         How did these rules get in the way with taking a Sabbath break?
·         Do you think these rules helped keep the Sabbath holy?
·         What should you do on the Sabbath? (DOES IT DRAW YOU CLOSER TO GOD?)
o   Go to church, Sabbath/Sunday School, etc.
·         Is the Sabbath an excuse to sleep in and not do chores, or homework?

::SATURDAY VS SUNDAY::
·         Does it matter what day of the week we go to church?
·         Sabbath is the day in bible…the one Jesus went to church on
·         Sunday is the day Jesus rose from the dead
·         No it doesn’t matter what day you go to church, as long as you keep one day set aside for God.

::CHALLENGE::

Set one day aside for a Sabbath break….
